Lessons from Epictetus

Reflections

Currently reviewing and reflecting on Epictetus – The enchiridion within a network of philosophy in Stockholm. Since I personally have a love for the stoics, I thought I would just quickly summarise some main takeaways in a fashion suitable for modern life.

Focus

Importance of limiting focus to what is in ones own hands to control. Don’t let the focus wander. See time for the limited resource it is, act wisely.

Control feelings

Build up aversion and distaste for things which are bad for us and in our control. Journaling and written rules are key. However, don’t waste emotional effort on what we can’t control.

Act with spirit

All things cost time. Plan carefully what endeavors you undertake based on strengths – then act with spirit! Do not get caught indecisive for days on.
